Re: First automated driving death
been told it will decrease but ...surely properly punishing dangerous drivers would also do this. Subjrct close to my heart this given my brothers killer only got 7 and a half years. Could end up being 4 with good bevaviour and his remand time takem off.

Re: First automated driving death
UK road deaths are currently just over 1,700 annually.

If we had 100% driver less vehicles, would this reduce or increase?

Debs, funny cat videos?

Don't you mean pussy videos?

:-)

Darlo Debs 3:18 Thu Mar 22
Re: First automated driving death
is that the same technology which buffers when trying to watch funny cat videos.

If we want to reduce car deaths we can do that by prlperly penalising drivers who are a danger on the roads.. Not convinced we should be reliquishing control to a machine...it has serious implications for legal responsibility too, when an accident happens.

Re: First automated driving death
Recognising potholes and sirens seems simple compared to making a car drive on it's own.
I'm sure they are small problems that can easily be overcome with todays technology.

or getting out of the way for emergency vehicles boleyn kid? How will it know to recognise a siren and which direction its coming from.

Re: First automated driving death
For various reasons this is something we really should be making far more of now to try to stop this from happening. As usual though apathy will see to it that people will only complain once this stupid idea is up and running and then it will be too late to do anything about it. It's a bit like a football club say knocking down their historic stadium but the fans only really complaining after the event.

I wonder how these driverless cars are going to handle potholes.

"Why the fuck do we need them and who the fuck is asking for them?"

Any woman on the planet wanting to reverse into/out of a parking space.

I agree, modern cars are shit.

I'm probably going to buy myself a little run around in a month or so and will be looking at a classic saab turbo convertible.

Re: First automated driving death
As Ron was pointing out this is NOT the first death with these cars, but the greater question here is ........

Why the fuck do we need them and who the fuck is asking for them?

Taxi drivers..not a peep. That's weird as they will be unemployed when these cars eventually take over their jobs. Many others will lose their jobs too as Alphabet (Google) (CIA) work on robots and AI. Look for some of the work by Alphabet on YouTube (Also Alphabet/google). These new robots are frighteningly capable and once they sort the power and AI issues I don't think it's a leap in logic to realize that these are being built to keep people like us in line.

But who gives a fuck..........right?

Hopefully they can be programmed to recognise kids playing chicken and run them over.

Re: First automated driving death
I’m still cynical that driverless cars can be used in built up areas. Kids will have great fun piss-arsing about, feigning stepping out into the road, getting the cars to stop/start.

I fucking hate modern cars as it is, the only joy left is driving them.

Lease my Jag is up in the summer, it won't be replaced and I will be buying something smokey, hugely fuel inefficient and at least 20 years old.

Re: First automated driving death
I fucking hate the way the world is going. Cars have already become bastardized everything is electrical and because of that more expensive to fix, it was supposed to make the mechanics job easier but these day's people end up having to take the car to the dealer and get fucking fleeced because the mechanic cannot fix the problem.
Driverless cars are just another invention to create more dumb people who the fuck would want to get into a car only to sit and watch it do the job of driving through a computer, the world has gone mad what next removable penises?.

Re: First automated driving death
Geep

If you read that piece quickly, you could easily miss that this wasn't really a driver-less car. There was an operator at the wheel.

The article has absolutely no detail about the "driver".

The driver/operator is an extremely interesting character and could be newsworthy all by xer/ximself.
